SPOILER WARNING: As the title suggests this review is full of spoilers.
I have a like hate relationship with this book series. The ONLY reason I made it to the third book was because I love enemies to lovers relationships and I needed to know how Jude and Cardan ended.
So this mini review is going to be biased as I’m not really a fan.
But from a none fan’s perspective Cardan turning into a huge ass snake that death was the only escape from was…a very questionable choice for a finale.
I felt like the book fell into the trap of high drama but for me without properly engaging my emotions and building up to these moments it feels like I’m being flung from one dramatic moment to the next without any real meaning to them.
This has always been a pet peeve of mine so I’ll digress.
For those of you who need to know yes Cardan and Jude do end up together. He announces Jude is his wife when she falls from the ceiling after trying to save him from a suspected assassination attempt.
As far who is going to rule Faerie it looks like Jude still intends to give the throne to Oak but honestly it’s never really discussed or finalised.
Oh and the whole banishment thing was easily solved by how everyone suspected. Jude could pardon herself.

DISCLAIMER: Spoiler alert for The Cruel Prince.
So you might be wondering if you remember my review of The Cruel Prince why on earth I bothered picking up The Wicked King? Answer: I am just a total sucker for hate to love romance and Faerieland. I don’t even like any of the characters but I just wanna know what happens. The teenage twilight loving girl in me is apparently still alive and kicking and is happy to spend time reading an angsty romance set in Faerieland.
The Wicked King was easier reading as we are now over the badly set-up plot and have gotten past the tricky issue of why the hell Jude is doing half the stuff she does. She’s living it now and her motivations aren’t really an issue. So now Jude’s done all the dumb stuff she had no business doing and we just get to watch it play out.
In the Wicked King we discover there is no hope for Taryn. I think people think Taryn is getting harsher treatment because shes a girl. No. I don’t like her because she was happy to “prove her love” by standing by and watching her boyf get with her twin sister. She was just fine with her twin sister thinking this guy liked her, knowing that he didn’t. Who sets their own SISTER up for humiliation like that? Girls SUPPORT girls. In the Wicked King she still has no respect for herself or her sister apparently. Locke is also trash and belongs in the bin.
There was some interesting twists in this book – one in particular I didn’t really see coming and a new mystery was presented. But really I’m just reading these books to find out if Jude and Cardan will get married and rule Faerie together.
